Monster!!!!!
The monster trucks returned to the Pontiac Silverdome in November. I asked Miles if he wanted to go see them and first he asked: "Is it going to be loud?" I told him yes, knowing that his reply would be "NOOOO!", but to my surprise, he said "Yes!". I couldn't believe it, but he seemed like he really wanted to see them, so, we got his friend James and his dad to come along and headed up to Pontiac.
Now I have to say, I was looking forward to seeing the trucks myself, but I was really interested in seeing how Miles reacted to them up close and when the noise hit. We got there early, and they allowed the fans to go all the way down to the track to mingle with the trucks. As soon as we got in, this is what we saw:
Miles and James were very excited to get down there and check it out, so we did!

You could walk right up to them, look at the suspension, touch the tires, and even try jumping some cars yourself:

After a while, the boys were ready to get up to find some seats, so we bought some ludicrously overpriced pizza and found some seats in the end zone.

After they got everyone cleared from the dirt, and a long while after that, and a long while after THAT, they finally started clearing the tape from around the trucks and brought out some construction trucks to clear away some of the cattle gates and whatnot. A long while after that (are you starting to get the idea that there was a lot of waiting around?), the drivers started getting in the trucks and we waited excitedly for the first one to fire up it's engine.
VROOOMM! room room room room room room! The first one sputtered to life, filling the Silverdome with testosterone fueled fury. It slowly started moving toward a tunnel on the other side of the stadium, and one by one, the other 10 or so trucks started up and followed. Soon, all the trucks were gone and Miles was getting pretty mad that the show was over before any of those cars out there got crushed. "Where are those monster trucks GOING daddy!?!" he would yell in his stern voice.
A long while after that, they brought out some quad bikes for a race, after that, another quad bike race, and another.
Miles liked it at first, but got bored with them after the first race. "Where are the monster trucks, daddy!?" Another long wait. But then, the lights went out:

Then a door opened and the trucks emerged from the other end of the stadium, one by one, their hulking size exaggerated after seeing little quad bikes buzzing around on the dirt for an hour. Pretty cool, Miles and James were loving it (so was I, he he). You can see that James paid attention to the commercial, "We'll sell you the whole seat, but you'll only need the edge!".

We got to see them race:

Jump:

and even crash:

Miles really enjoyed it, and didn't complain about the noise so long as he had his ear protection on. I think this is something we'll be going back to again.

I love the "Rebel Rodeo" shirt in that one shot and the sweet scary tattoo on the guy's hand (with the camera). I bet people watching was awesome there.
It was indeed awesome, but I didn't realize I had captured that awesomeness all in one picure. Thanks for pointing it out.
