Halloween

Here's Gavin as a lion.

Here's Miles as Lightning McQueen.

Unfortunately, Jason ended up with the flu on Halloween so he wasn't able to join us, so I took Miles and Gavin around the neighborhood. Miles didn't last all that long. He's such a scaredy cat that whenever he saw a kid with a mask, he flipped out. He was eager to open the door for trick-or-treaters - that is until he saw kids with scary costumes. He then quickly retreated. It was quite humorous.

Carving Pumpkins

Miles was slightly more interested in carving pumpkins this year. He really didn't want to touch the insides, but he let Jason help him carve it.

Gavin looks eager to cut into his.

Miles Turned 4

Miles is 4 years old! In the past few weeks, he's gotten taller, more argumentative, and sassy. I know Mom, it's payback time. I deserve every bit of it. I'm sure he is no worse than I was. Yesterday, he and I got into an argument about whether or not he was arguing with me. I didn't realize what was happening until he said, "Well you're arguing with me." Good point. I don't know how I get roped into these. I guess we're both stubborn.

Detroit 1/2 Marathon

I reached my goal - running the entire 13.1 miles of the Detroit Free Press half marathon. It took me 2 hours and 24 minutes. Not too bad considering I had a baby 7 months earlier and had to take a month off of training because of a sprained back.

Here's my friend Melissa and me running through the streets of downtown Detroit. I can't say that Detroit is a pretty city. We saw lots of boarded up, run-down buildings. Running across the bridge into Canada was pretty cool though. We then ran under the Detroit River via the tunnel back to Detroit. It was a neat race. Jason and Miles came to cheer me on while Mimi took care of Gavin at home. Jason said that Miles was busy giving the runners high fives as they passed.

Here's me and Melissa after the race trying to stay warm. It was a chilly morning!

My next race might just be the Flying Pig in Cincinnati this coming spring. We'll see...

Curious George

For Miles birthday, we took him to see Curious George at the Fox Theater. It was a good show. Miles was literally on the edge of his seat throughout the entire show.

Miles 4th Birthday

I can't believe Miles is 4. He's so big now. For his birthday, we went to Red Robin where he enjoyed a sundae. He did not like the birthday song they sang, however.

Here he is opening a gift from GM and GP. He certainly enjoyed opening gifts.

Miles had a party where he had several friends over. Mimi was also able to join us for the festivities. Here he is at his party with another Lightning McQueen cake at his request.

Gavin - 7 Months Old

Gavin is 15 lbs 12 oz. He is around 26 inches in length. He went from the 25th percentile to the 6th, so he isn't gaining weight like he should. At this age, Miles weighed 17 lbs and 10 oz and was 27.25 inches tall. Click here to see a picture of Miles at this age.

Gavin has been rolling around all over the place. That seems to be his mode of transportation these days since he isn't crawling. It's a good lesson for Miles. Gavin's gradually getting closer and closer to getting to his toys. Miles will FREAK when Gavin does begin eating his cars.

Gavin's talking a lot now. He says things that sound like dada, hi, and hey, among other sounds. We're working on mama.

Why won't he stay asleep?

Gavin has been driving us nuts for the past several weeks at night. He goes to bed just fine, but then wakes up several times during the night usually beginning around 1am. He'll go back to sleep if we give him his pacifier, but will wake up again within the next hour, and then so on and so on. As you can see in the picture, he knows where his thumb is. He even likes it. So why can't he find it in the dark? We've tried doing the Ferber method of letting him cry it out. That hasn't exactly worked. At we thought maybe he was cold at night, so we turned up the heat. Cozy warm and still crying his eyes out. Now we're thinking it could be the rice cereal we mix in his food in the evening. He has seemed a bit constipated lately, maybe it wakes him up at night with the feeling of having to poop. I'd be grumpy too if I couldn't poop. And it's not as if he's in pain. There isn't usually any tears, just a lot of complaining. Well, wish us luck because this is really driving us nuts!

Pumpkin Picking

I love going to the pumpkin patch, especially Three Cedars Farm. We took a hayride back to the patch where Miles and Gavin picked out their pumpkins. Then back up at the farm, Jason and I picked out our pumpkins. With 2 kids, we couldn't very well pick up all 4 pumpkins at the patch. I tried convincing Jason to choose a giant pumpkin, big enough for Gavin to fit into but he wasn't interested. :( That would have made a great scrapbook page. Oh well...

And of course, you have to get the cider and donuts at a pumpkin patch which might be a big part of why I like going so much. For being a rainy morning, it turned out to be a nice day for us.

The hayride to the pumpkin patch

Trying to get a cute picture for my scrapbook. It's hard! I can't get them both to look at me at the same time to save my life.

Gavin going along just for the ride.

Here's the two pumpkins the boys picked out. Miles wants his to have Lightning McQueen on it. Good luck with that, Jason.
